(A letter written sincerely to a friend of the Jehovah Witness about the truth of Trinity.)

Dear Mr…

I am urged in the Spirit to write to you on  the sacred subject of godhead. Writing is preferred to talk in order to avoid arguments. Before introducing the subject, I may appreciate your stand on traditional matters like Christmas, Easter, Clergies, Infant sprinkling etc. You consider them as mere superficial, unapostolic and unscriptural. I too agree with you. Many churches are entangled in traditional strings which have really kept out truths of the scripture. They were introduced by festival minded leaders in order to promote merry-making, eating drinking and self-satisfaction.

God in his own will and plan had commanded the Jews to observe festivals described in Lev.23. But to us, the New Testament spiritual Israel, the Lord has not set any festival to observe. That is a fact which can’t be winked at. In the flow of the New Testament spirituality ritualism is washed out. The Lord has asked his followers to observe only two things as a mark of obedience and memorial. But are absolutely free from festivity. They emit out spiritual flavors of Praises, adoration and dedication. These two are baptism (meaning immersion) and the Lord ’s Supper. They are symbols of Jesus’ birth, his body and blood and his death, burial and resurrection. Those who purify themselves to practice these two regularly, don’t need any other festival to remember him (Rom 6: 3-5; 1Cor.11:24). To add to these commanded observances suggests what our Lord commanded is insufficient. That is a violation.

Friend, we should reject all unscriptural teachings. Doctrines the word of God stipulates should be dear to us. May I bring home to your mind that nowhere the Bible says, “God is one person”. What is recorded is “God is one”. There is a sea of difference between the two. A husband and his wife may be termed as one. Our Lord prayed to God the Father, “that they (his disciples) may be one as we are one”. (Jn 17:22). Paul wrote in Gal.3:28, “there is neither male nor female; for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” Which kind of oneness is indicated in these verses? It does not at all mean one in person. This oneness, then is in mind, will, purpose, aim, destiny, membership of God’s family etc. At the same time these persons are different, I am confident that you will agree to this conclusion. Jehovah God has a similar oneness with more than one person in His Being.

What is a person is very relevant .Without the knowledge nobody can determine which is a person and which is not. Jehovah God is a person, you and I agree because He thinks, will, has life, emotions, and self-consciousness. (self-consciousness is one’s feeling that I exists apart from another person or thing). These qualities of a person are observed in God, the Father, in Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit too.

“God is a Spirit (Jn 4:24), we read.  Has  that Spirit a person? You will answer “yes”. If God who is Spirit has person, the Holy Spirit also is a person in Him. It reasons are simple; the Holy Spirit thinks, feels, acts, wills, has emotion and self-consciousness just as God who is Spirit has. Had not the Holy Spirit a person in Him, He(The Spirit) would not have been able to do the things. In other words the Holy Spirit is not imprison like electricity or air. Air and electricity has no person in them and are unable to think will, to have emotions and self-consciousness.

God’s persons are mysterious, because each has the ability to live in the other. This mystery is revealed in Jesus Himself in Jn 16:28; 17:8; 14:10. At the same time each can sit beside the other. Not the phrases” with God”, and  “at the right hand of God” in Jn.1; Mk.16:19. The man possessing legion ie 6000 evil spirits had 6001 persons living in him including his own person (see Mark 5:9). The Triune God is Being having three persons in Himself, This uniplurality godhead is, therefore, a mystery, unique and unseen in any other being in the whole universe. These three persons exists in the Being in perfect amicability and equality in essence and act and behave as three or as one.

I know you accept the Bible the as the Word of God. The uniplurality in godhead is a revelation recorded in the pages of the Holy Bible. Let us examine whether this is true:

  1. Gen 1:1 “ In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. “Hebrew scholars point out that the word “God” in this verse is “Elohim” in the original Hebrew language meaning “Gods.” While it’s singular “Eloh” is available in the language, the plural Elohim chosen by the Spirit of God. The first verse of the Bible therefore, introduces a uni-plural God to the ‘the world’.
  2. “Elohim” used as plural in several places in Bible, is translated clearly as “gods” in Gen 35; Ex 12:12; 18:11; 22:28; Psa 82:1. Jehovah God used the plural word, and we have to accept it in all submission.
  3. The plural Elohim is indicated by its plural pronoun like “us” and “our” in Gen. 1:26; 3:22; 11; Isa 6:8, instead of “my” and “mine”. You can’t ignored this too. Don’t allow yourself to be misguided by some ill-taught and untaught people. Some may try to teach you that this plural noun and pronouns indicate either 1. angles, 2. attributes or 3. a reverential usage.

It can’t represent angels, for they don’t have any part in creating the heaven, earth and  Adam and Eve. Jehovah alone deserves the honor as the Creator, not angels. The three in godhead, the Father, the Word and the Spirit are stated to have part in creation. See Heb 1:2; Jn.1:3; Psa 33:6; Job 26:13; 33:4;Col 1:18. There is not even a dim indication to show the angels having any part in creation.

The uni-plurality is revealed as Trinity. It does not represent the attributes of God, for attributes are not three, but many.

The plurality can’t either be usage for reverence. If it were so it would have been used for God throughout in the Bible. In many places the singular ‘Eloh’ is used. God can’t be a reverend sometimes and a not-reverend sometimes and non-reverend at other times. Eloh shows God’s oneness, and Elohim His composite unity.

  1. This plurality is referred to in Deut. 6:4 “ Hear, oh Israel, the Lord is one God.” (Its Hebrew is “Sh’ma, Israel, Adonai, Elohinu Echod.”). This “Echod” used for one means a composite unity. The Hebrew word for a simple unity is ‘yachted.’. Hebrew scholars here assert that God was careful to use this word of composite unity. The word Echod is used in Judges 20:1 “The congregation was gathered together as one (echod) man. Again in Num 13:23 where also a composite unity was represented use of yachted here would have been wrong.
  2. Moved by the Holy Spirit, Isaiah spoke of a trinity in Godhead in Isa 48:16-

i.         “I have not spoken in secret

ii.       The Lord God and His Spirit hath sent me.”

“I” is one, “The Lord God” is another and “His Spirit” is the third.

  1. The same Trinity is revealed again in Isa 61:1
    1. ‘The Spirit | each of the three is a person
    2. Of the Lord God |
    3. Is with me’ |
  2. The Trinity appears again in Isa. 63:9 read
  3. In the New Testament, The Triune God is revealed in a fuller and clearer manner as the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in Mt 28:19; 2 Cor.12:4-6. These three names are bestowed with equality in honor and side by side position. They behave as separate persons, sometimes as one and some times as three persons.

You believe in one God with one person who exists from the past eternity. If one God with one person can exist so, why can’t one God with three centres of persons within the same Being exist from eternity?

Friend, their unity with three personal centres in the Being is a revealed phenomenon in the Bible. To deny that revelation is denying Jesus Christ but Jehovah Himself. This fact is not any man’s discovery but a revelation. Your salvation depends on adoring the one God in three persons. All the three are equally divine and are to be adored. You may see for yourself that the Father and the Lamb who is Christ are equally honored and worshipped in Rev 5:13; 7:10; Heb 1:6. If they are worshipped in heaven, you too have to worship them and that worship ought to be not without the Spirit but in the Spirit. Those who teach you don’t heed to the scholars of the Hebrew and Greek languages in which the Old and New Testaments respectively were written; hence they are ill taught. Therefore I strongly advise you to pay greater attention in searching the scriptures with the help of God’s servants having knowledge of the Hebrew and Greek languages. You can’t be a Jehovah’s Witness without being a witness of the Lord Jesus Christ if you obey Acts. 1:8 because Jesus means Jehovah Yesous who is God and equal to God as the scripture says in Jn 1:1; Heb 1:8; Ph.2:6. The Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit united is our Jehovah. You can adore them only if you come out of the Jehovah Witness cult who has already gone wrong in its Prophecies and other teachings.

I shall be glad to hear from you after carefully going through this first part of the letter. May the mighty person of the Holy Spirit help you, I pray.

Loving Yours in Christ
